UPDATE: As far as I can tell, is Mefeedia the World’s Largest Human-Powered Knowledgebase for Online Video? Mahalo is bigger on the text side, YouTube and other UGC are more about general categories, and the How-To video sites are more about How-To rather than what i would consider knowledgebases, aka Wikipedia.

Announcing our new channels!
Ever been frustrated finding what videos are “hot” in specific topics ? Ever try to answer the question of where i can find video shows on technology is? or cooking? or San Francisco? Well, now you can answer those questions with Mefeedia’s new “participatory video channels”! Here is what is new:

First, we had Wallstrip. Then Treehugger. Today, Cycling.tv has been acquired by JumpTV for around $5 million. The difference between Wallstrip and Cycling.tv? Cycling.tv has been around a while and actually has 18,000 paying subscribers. Not huge numbers, but certainly can be increased with the greater exposure brought to it by JumpTV.

The market for niche content continues to remain hot, as witnessed by the $8 million in funding that Revision3 just received today. Of course, instead of “niche”, we prefer to call it “targeted” content – content that is dealing with specific topics or locations that people are interested in.
Mefeedia just launched 33 targeted content channels (left hand side of home page when you are not logged in). There are lots more to come and these channels will soon become more collaborative and robust – we will keep you updated.
